As manager and president of the Shubert Organization, Gerald Schoenfeld and his partner, Bernard Jacobs, have been major influences in the revival of theBroadway theatre. Among its other developments, the Shubert Organization hasbeen credited with instituting telephone ticket sales and computerized seat selection, making it easier for patrons to order theatre tickets. In addition,Schoenfeld has worked to improve the Times Square area of New York City in order to promote theatre attendance, donating equipment to the city sanitationdepartment and organizing protests and political action groups to fight forbetter conditions in the area.
