Ann Jellicoe Biography (1927-)
Born July 15, 1927, in Middlesborough, Yorkshire, England; daughter of John Andrea and Frances Jackson (Henderson) Jellicoe; married Roger Mayne; children: one daughter, one son. Addresses: AGENT--Margaret Ramsay Ltd., 14a Goodwin's Court, St. Martin's, London WC2, England.
Jellicoe expressed her concern to CTFT regarding American ideas of "community" theatre which, unlike the amateur interpretation given it in the States, inEngland means professional involvement in a new form. "Community plays involve hundreds of people in acting, in helping set up the play, grouped around asmall core of professionals who share skills and expertise. A play is specially written and researched by a writer of national standing, the aim being toentertain and celebrate the town. This work is now being taken up and copiedall over Britain."
