Bert Convy Biography (1934-1991)



Born July 23, 1934, in St. Louis, MO; died of cancer, July 15, 1991, in Los Angeles, CA. Performer. Convy is best remembered as the host of the televisiongame shows Tattletales, Super Password, and Win, Lose or Draw,and as a film, television, and stage actor. Convy played baseball for a Philadelphia Phillies farm team for two seasons in the early 1950s before embarking upon a full-time acting career. His theatrical credits include stage musicals, such as the original cast performances of Cabaret and Fiddleron the Roof, and other plays, including A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and The Front Page. He appeared on numerous television shows--PerryMason, The Partridge Family, Love of Life, and The Snoop Sisters--and also hosted his own variety program, The Late Summer, Early Fall BertConvy Show in the 1970s. Convy's film credits include Semi-Tough and John Goldfarb, Please Come Home, as well as the made-for-televisionDallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and Man in the Santa Claus Suit. Hereceived an Emmy for best game show host in 1977 for Tattletales. Healso appeared as a singer and comedian in nightclubs, was co-executive producer for Win, Lose or Draw, and directed the 1986 film Weekend Warriors.
