Harry Bellaver Biography (1905-1993)



Born February 12, 1905, in Hillsboro, IL; died of pneumonia, August 8, 1993,in Nyack, NY. Actor. Television audiences may remember character actor Bellaver as Sergeant Arcaro on the television series Naked City, which ran from 1960 to 1964. He was also noted for playing Chief Sitting Bull in Annie Get YourGun and the coach in That Championship Season, both on Broadway. Bellaver began his career with the Hedgerow Repertory Theater near Philadelphia, PA, where he spent four years before moving to New York City in 1930 and joining theGroup Theater. There, he performed in over thirty plays over the course of fourteen years and helped found the Actors' Equity Association. He also appeared on live television programs such as Kraft Television Theater and acted inmany films, among them From Here to Eternity, The Old Man and the Sea, and God Told Me To.
