Gordon Douglas Biography (1907-1993)



Born December 15, 1907; died September 29, 1993, in Los Angeles, CA. Director, writer, and actor. Douglas directed thirty of the popular, comedic Our Gangshort films early in his career, winning an Academy Award for the episode "Bored of Education." He got his start in the movie business playing small roles in several films while he lived in New York in the 1920s, then moved to LosAngeles to act with and write for the Hal Roach stock company. After the OurGang shorts, he directed feature films for over thirty years, beginning withthe Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy comedy Saps at Sea, and he also directed and co-wrote television movies and series, including Topper. His other film directing credits include If You Knew Suzie and Rio Conchos.
