Dack Rambo Biography (1941-1994)



Born Norman J. Rambeau, November 13, 1941, in Delano, CA; died of complications from the AIDS virus, March 21, 1994, in Delano, CA. Actor. Dack Rambo andhis twin brother, Dirk, were discovered by Loretta Young and invited to starin her CBS series, The New Loretta Young Show, in the early 1960s; when the series ended, the brothers attempted a singing career in the vein of the Everly Brothers, but this was cut short when Dirk was killed in an automobile accident in 1967. Rambo returned to acting in such series as Never Too Young, TheGuns of Will Sonnett, and Sword of Justice, before taking a role on the soapopera All My Children. In 1985 he was picked to play Jack Ewing, the arch rival to J. R. Ewing on television's Dallas; however, he felt that he was slighted for his sexuality (he was bisexual) and left the show in 1987 to take therole of Congressman Grant Harrison on Another World. When he was diagnosed with HIV in 1991 he retired from show business to devote his time to AIDS- andgay-activism.
