Bill Bixby Biography (1934-1993)



Born January 22, 1934, in San Francisco, CA; died of prostate cancer, November 21, 1993, in Century City, CA. Actor and director. Although he appeared onBroadway in Under the Yum Yum Tree and in such films as Lonely Are the Braveand Irma la Douce, Bixby was primarily known for his work on television overthe course of three decades. In the 1960s he played Tim O'Hara, a reporter who harbors an alien from outer space in the series My Favorite Martian. He later earned the role of Tom Corbett, a widower whose son constantly tries to get his father involved in relationships with other women in The Courtship of Eddie's Father. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Bixby played Dr. David Banner, a scientist whose accidental exposure to gamma rays causes him to turn into a muscular, green-skinned creature in The Incredible Hulk. The title rolewas played by Lou Ferrigno. In addition to his acting work, Bixby served as adirector of a number of television programs, including Sledge Hammer! and the comedy series Blossom.
