Gale Gordon Biography (1906-1995)



Born Charles T. Aldrich, Jr., February 20, 1906, in New York, NY; died of cancer, June 30, 1995, in Escondido, CA. Actor. Although Gale Gordon was a prolific film actor, he is best remembered for his roles opposite Lucille Ball inThe Lucy Show, Here's Lucy, and Life with Lucy. Gordon made his screen debutin the RKO picture Here We Go Again in 1942 and continued to appear on film as recently as 1989's The 'Burbs. Gordon was a regular performer on Pete and Gladys and The Jack Benny Show. He replaced the original Mr. Wilson, Joseph Kearns, on Dennis the Menace from 1962-63. Gordon was also a much sought-aftervoice actor on radio, portraying Mayor La Trivia during the 1940s on the long-running Fibber McGee and Molly. He later took on television versions of roles he had created on radio, including high school principal Osgood Conklin onOur Miss Brooks. Gordon's association with Ball began on radio with My Favorite Husband, and continued in the television version during the 1953-54 season. He later took on the roles of Ricky Ricardo's boss on I Love Lucy, Lucy's banker employer in The Lucy Show, and brother-in-law and manager Harrison Carter in Here's Lucy. Gordon was last associated with Ball in the 1986 series Life with Lucy, in which he played Curtis McGibbon.
